GOPHER RECORDS

I volunteer with a non-profit organization researching African American soldiers who served in the U.S. Colored Troops during the Civil War. One of the other volunteers mentioned Gopher Records as a faster and cheaper alternative to NARA for obtaining digital pension record files. She was certainly right on the money; the service far exceeded my expectations. The on-line registration is very user-friendly. The site allows you to upload documents that may assist in the retrieval of information you’re seeking. In my case, I uploaded a pension card and the entire pension file was delivered electronically in just 2 days! The $45 service fee is definitely a bargain and well worth the expense. I plan to use Gopher whenever the need arises.
