Gopher Records performs an incredible service for me. Through their work, I have uncovered details that disproves an urban legend and provides factual information to finally solve the riddle. For the last 100 years, the “last shot of the Civil War east of the Mississippi” has been centered on a Federal Regiment I am researching. Come to find out through the service records of the individuals involved, history was 1/2 correct. Now the true story can be told. It is like searching for the Holy Grail and Gopher Records saying, “hold on, I know where that is, be right back”.
Not only are service records great for genealogy research, they often contain a gold mine of other information. In my case, it gave me a name to distinguish between similar names, the fact that he was wounded in the timeframe I was looking at, and a lack of wounds ruled out two other men, leaving only the one in question.
They are quick, reasonably priced (actually darn cheap) and honestly do put the customer first.
