I've been wanting to take a trip to NARA for so long, to access the hidden pension files of the Civil War soldiers. Then, someone told me about Gopher Records, and I thought I might as well give them a try. Voila!! They found a 108-page pension file that broke down a brick wall and solved a huge mystery, providing the name of the soldier's wife, names and birth dates of two children, the day he died, and where he lived after the war. I submitted my order just before Christmas and I didn't expect any response for weeks. But I received back my scanned file shortly after New Years. Despite the age of these documents the scans were clear and very readable. I am very happy with the result.

You really can't beat the service - a complete set of Civil War records in 10 days for less than it would cost me to go to NARA and do it myself (and with far less hassle). I will use Gopher Records wherever possible.
