Civil War Records

About 40 years ago I ordered and received the Civil War records and pension files for my Great Grandfather. Based on a comment on Facebook for a genealogy group that I joined, it was recommended that I try again using Gopher Records. I gave it a try since the original files received were missing pages and the copies Gopher provides are in color. Jackpot! I received more pages and more answers using their service and it was actually very close to the price I paid some 40 years ago. They were fast, efficient, responsive [...]

Civil War pension file

I am so happy to have heard about Gopher Records' services. Two years ago I had tried to obtain a complete Civil War pension file on someone through National Archives and never heard back, never saw my credit card run, could not track my request on NARA's website, nor did NARA respond to emails. When I learned that Gopher Records could do this for me quickly and at a discount, I jumped on the chance. Because this veteran was a complicated case, a deserter who later re-enlisted in a different unit, and a bigamist with two widows filing [...]

Above and Beyond Service!

When I asked for a record from Washington D.C. and it turned out that it was actually in St. Louis at the NPRC, Bob went above and beyond to secure those records for me. Records that in the past have taken months and months to obtain, Bob got to me in a couple of weeks! Excellent, fast, knowledgeable, and friendly!

Civil War pensions

I was very please with the work of this group. They were quick and kept me informed about the progress and problems with my request. The file was more complete than the one I received years ago.

Pension records of Lewis Taylor Robinson and William Henry Pinn

I am very happy with the service that I start utilizing back in June 2023. I might be in trouble because I might need a second job because all of sudden I need more pension records for my Civil War ancestors and my USCT 100th project. LOL I have been waiting for the pension record for my two 4x great uncles for some time. I haven't read the pension for William Henry Pinn yet, it is 273 pages, and I need to print it out still. I have waited nearly three years for Lewis Taylor Robinson's [...]

Service Highly Recommended

Gopher Records is a great service! The prices are reasonable and the response time is excellent. It was very easy to order, as well as to receive the scanned documents. I had been waiting for months for the National Archives to fulfill a Mexican War pension file request. After seeing Gopher Records mentioned in the Vita Brevis blog (AmericanAncestors), I decided I had nothing to lose by contacting them. Bob answered my question about how to handle the fact that the record was already ordered with the National Archives. I ordered the pension [...]

My Order #3 On 1/8/24

I was very pleased to receive this product, which was the remnant from a previous order in 12/23 that has been delayed due to miscommunication between MYSELF & NARA. The patience demonstrated by Gopher Records in searching for a lost CMSR file and retrieving a Civil War pension file was most impressive. Through my three orders (so far) with Gopher Records, I have learned to trust their abilities over the previous experiences which I have had with NARA staff.

A stab in the dark

Some records are a stab in the dark. I still don't know if this is the right guy but I got the records very quickly, allowing me time to evaluate before deciding on the next move.

Highly recommend!!

I asked Gopher Records to locate pension records for a great great grandfather that I knew had served and within a short amount of time I had the records in my hands!! I received more information than I expected and the records were clear and easy to read. As a 40+ year genealogist I was thrilled to find information that was missing in my file on this individual. I highly recommend Gopher Records if you’re interested in obtaining records that you’ve been looking for and learning more about your family than you ever expected. Give them a try!! [...]

Bob Velke

I requested a full Civil War file on a great Uncle from Goopher records and Bob Velke came through with lightening speed. Within a week I had all digital files saved to my desktop, and while I had some difficulty in saving them, Bob offered to make a phone call and walk me through the process. I am beyond impressed at his expertise and highly recommed his services above and beyond what the NARC can offer. Keep up the good work, you are providing a valuable service to us researchers!
