This was my first Civil War ancestor who I had researched. Bob returned a wealth of information that not only answered questions as to specific service such as which military units my ancestor was assigned to, but I found out my ancestor was captured at the Battle of Wilderness and held as a prisoner of war at Andersonville. A friend suggested I try Gopher Records to find military medical, discharge and pension records for my 2nd Great Grandfather who was in the Civil War. Setting up the request on the website was fast and easy. I thought the cost was a bit steep ($76) for the Civil War Soldier Bundle (medical, discharge, pension), but if they could provide that information, it would be worth it. I have used Gopher Records to obtain documents from the National Archives for several years now. Their knowledge and service is so exceptional, I consider them one of my top resources for genealogical research.

Fast and thorough. I received over 50pages of pension files documenting a dozen interviews of neighbors of my ggg grandparents who were attempting to receive their sons pensions. It is an amazing account of life in cincinnati in the 1880s. All of this within a week! Exceptional and I will be back for more records

Civil War records

If you cannot get to NARA in person, Gopher Records is the next best thing! I have used them several times to request Civil War pension records and have not been disappointed. They set realistic delivery expectations, but even so I have received all requests quicker than promised, even one that had to be retrieved from St Louis. This is a service you can rely on, and I will continue use them every time I need to request a pension file.
