A geneology group suggested gopher to retrieve a civil war pension record of a soldier who died and his parents received his pension at seperate times. It was previously thought this soldiers father died before 1880, because his mother is by herself on a census living with another son. Turns out the father had left his mother and was still living for 20+ years longer than originally thought, and previously unknown death dates for both parents and their marriage date. I’ve had several Civil War pension and service records retrieved by Gopher Records. I’ve found their service, when the pandemic didn’t interfere, to be faster and more reliable than the official NARA service. By more reliable I mean that the scans are more consistent from page to page. And, this service usually costs half or less compared to what the NARA would charge. Once the scans are completed the Gopher Records system of distribution via internet download is quick and simple. Gopher Records was able to find my great-great-grandmother's rejected widow's pension application which has long been part of our family lore. It was amazing to read affidavits from various family members and see first hand accounts of events that were passed down over the years as stories. Thank you for telling my he was shot in his left chest I always wondered where he was shot and I didnt know he was sent to Philadelphia for a while. Died Jan 1864 from his wounds I did have the military record of his date of birth and death, and I got his fathers will stating George had passed. I did find name on the PA Monument in Gettysburg and where he is buried and I place American flags on his grave and his father
