I've requested several files from GopherRecords.com and have always been delighted with the results -- high quality scans without having to wait (I got one order on a Monday after making the request late Friday). The images are scanned in full color and can easily be magnified to evaluate that puzzling phrase. One pension file even included letters sent during the Civil War by the soldier who was incarcerated in Andersonville. Great service. Had never heard of Gopher until a couple weeks ago - saw it mentioned on Reddit. Super quick turnaround, and dirt cheap pricing. There's pretty much no reason to get these records from NARA directly if you know about Gopher.

Gopher Records has been a great resource for helping us obtain Civil War Pension records. In the last record we ordered, it included the death certificate for the solider living in the state of Nebraska, which was very helpful to our research! Three brothers, of our ancestor, fought in the Civil War. The records of all 3 were a treasure. One soldier died and his parent's applied for parent's pension. The records are full of info. that exists no where else! They shared so much about all of the family. The parent's life together (where they lived) is covered in so many documents and the records follow the rest of their lives. I received over 100 pages of information, and almost every page had either info I couldn't find elsewhere, or postive proof of things I already suspected. Gopher Records was wonderful. Great service.
