Gopher Records Best at Unlocking Civil War Soldier Information at National Archives

I have used Gopher Records in several cases involving soldiers, sailors, and pensioners from the Civil War Era. The service was timely and excellent. Having visited the archives personally several times over the years I can attest to the fact that access to certain records is not always easy and sometimes require patience as some records are not always where they should be. The pandemic has posed new obstacles and challenges to ferreting out information. In my experience, Gopher finds and delivers pension records much faster and at little more than half the cost of [...]

Civil War pensions

Gopher Records is fantastic! Fast service with great, clear scans. Very reasonable prices. Will definitely use them for every pension file I need.

Excellent resource, terrific customer service

I learned of Gopher Records during a genealogy study group that I took from Cyndi Ingalls (of Cyndi's List fame) earlier this year and have used them to retrieve three Civil War pension files so far. Their customer service is outstanding. They kept me informed of my order status, contacted me quickly to clarify the name on one file (which seemed at first to have been commingled with another pensioner's file), and provided the final electronic copies very quickly. (By contrast, I'd ordered a file directly from NARA before discovering Gopher and had to wait quite literally months [...]

Excellent Service

This was my second order from Gopher. All aspects of the transactions were outstanding. The customer service is very prompt, personable, and professional. Communication is tremendous. The delivery system and product are excellent. I’ve used two other private retrieval services, and this one is far superior. I have complete confidence in Gopher and look forward to future discoveries through them.

Great work!

I've been trying to find information about an ancestor of mine who served in the Civil War. He seems to have been in trouble several times and might have been court martialed at some point. I couldn't find any information on my own. I reached out to Gopher Records to see if they could help. They weren't able to find any court martial records (no charge for that). I asked if there might be another way to get information about his service and Gopher suggested looking at the Regimental Order Book. I [...]

An invaluable service

There's not enough good things I can say about Gopher records. They are thorough, easy to work with and knowledgeable about the record sets they work with. Not to mention the prices are very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Finding Benjamin

I had never heard of Gopher Records until I read a post on the Adams County, Ohio Genealogy Researchers Facebook Group telling how Gopher Records helped find some very helpful pension records. Okay, I thought. I'll give it a try. I filled out a request that very same day for the Civil War Pension file for my Second Great Grandfather Benjamin Truitt. Within a few days I received an email saying my file was ready to download. Three characteristics about Gopher Records stand out for me. One, they are very personable in their email responses. Maybe this tells me [...]

Photocopy of Civil War Records

I found 4 unknown volumes of civil war records for a western NC regiment at NARA. NARA informed me they did not copy the records, and my traveling there to review them wasn't feasible. I contacted Gopher Records to see what options I had. They copied Volume I for me, all 212 pages. The quality is superb and probably more important, they communicated with me! A rarity in this day. The cost was much less than me driving there, staying over and learning the system. I would recommend them for any [...]

Pension record for ancestors with many spellings of the last name

I was frustrated with finding a 1812 pension record for one of my ancestors. I had his service record but not the pension. I thought I had checked every possible spelling of his last name. GOPHER found the record I needed in a short time. I will use this service again as I research my early Virginia ancestors.

Excellent service

I ordered Civil War service and pension records from Gopher Records. The service was excellent, both professional and quick. The records I receive were excellent scans of the records in the file. One of the files contained an affidavit from an individual who identified the soldier as his uncle. This helped me confirm an unknown/unverified child of one of my ancestors. I would definitely use Gopher Records again!
